Tips for Wheaton transportation program
Since Ride DuPage was established as Wheaton's senior subsidized transportation program in March 2009, the city has registered more than 400 residents in the program, with an average of 321 trips and 1,061 miles per month.
Rides are provided by the Pace paratransit bus and the 303, Alliance, Freedom First and No One Left Behind cab companies.
The following are some tips to keep in mind when using Ride DuPage, offered by Wheaton officials:
• Make sure you have the exact address of where you are going when you make your reservation.
• Be very specific about pickup locations, especially at office or medical buildings with numerous entrances.
• Be sure to watch for the taxi or bus to arrive. Remember, you have only five minutes to appear for your ride.
• For medical appointments, schedule your return pickup at least 30 minutes past the time you think you will be finished.
• Trips must be canceled no less than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled pickup time. Make sure you cancel both the pickup and return trip.
• A different provider could pick you up for each ride. For example, the Pace bus could pick you up initially, and then a 303 cab could provide the return trip; or two different cab companies could provide the rides.
