When you go to a farmers market, perhaps you shop with a checklist. Your list varies, of course, as the seasons change. But there is one thing that shoppers frequently forget to add to that list.

"We would like to see people bring their own bags to the farmers markets this year," says Veronica Resa, community relations specialist for the Mayor's Office of Special Events, which oversees farmers markets in the city.
After all, the markets don't have an enormous stack of grocery bags like the supermarkets do. So bring along your favorite canvas bag or a few grocery bags from home.
After a long, ferocious winter and a cold, rainy early spring, it's fun to shop outdoors at a farmers market.
"The food is usually picked and on your table within 24 hours, so it's fresher and therefore healthier," Resa says.
"But it is equally as important that less fossil fuels are used to bring the food to the marketplace. We are not all-business either; we want people to have fun and get a sense of community at your local farmers markets."
The downtown markets are open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hours at the neighborhood markets are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., unless otherwise indicated.
