Does Illinois need a new constitution?
It's billed as a once in a generation opportunity: the chance to change the state constitution, maybe even throw it out completely. It's called a constitutional convention - or con-con, for short - and you'll have a chance Nov. 4 to vote on whether the state should hold one.

A.J. Pierzynski looked around the clubhouse and started to smile. ''One word to describe this year? Roller coaster,'' the White Sox catcher said without a pause.

Everyone wants an explanation. Is it the mystique of The Cell? The "blackout" conditions provided by a sellout crowd, again dressed for a funeral? Is it the question marks turned into exclamation points in pitchers John Danks and Gavin Floyd?

It's hard to say what was more impressive: the way the Bears overcame the absence of three starters, two of them with Pro Bowl credentials, or how they destroyed a defense hellbent on and successful at shutting down their rushing attack.

Wall Street tumbles amid global sell-off
Wall Street suffered through another extraordinary and traumatic session Monday, with the Dow Jones industrials plunging as much as 800 points -- their largest one-day point drop -- before recovering to close with a loss of 370. The catalyst for the selling, which also took the Dow below 10,000 for the first time in four years, was investors' growing despair that the spreading credit crisis will take a heavy toll around the world.
