Container gardening: Plainfield Public Library will present the final presentation in its seasonal container gardening series for 2009 at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the library, 15025 S. Illinois St. The library's own master gardener, Judi Deszcz, will demonstrate how to create stunning winter containers for the yard, patio or for gift giving. This class will focus on the appropriate materials, plants and containers to use for the winter months. Deszdz's demonstration container will be raffled as a door prize. Memoir writing series: The Plainfield Public Library will present the third and final session of its Memoir Writing Series at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the library, 15025 S. Illinois St. Participants will learn how to present memoirs and stories for publishing and the variety of options available for writers in today's market. Bring 1-5 pages of sample writing to class and receive a personal critique from the instructor, Deb DiSandro. Italian Dinner: Good Shepherd Council 5573 of the Knights of Columbus will serve an Italian Dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 18 in the St. Mary Immaculate Gym. Cooked by Angelo and his Italian chefs, the menu includes mostaccioli with meat sauce, salad, bread. All adults can eat for $6.50. Children under 5 eat free and children from 5 to 12 at $4.50. The ladies will be selling deserts for 50 cents and coffee for 25 cents. A cash bar with pop, water, beer and wine will be available! Shop til you drop: First Assembly of God is hosting a Shop til you Drop event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at the church, 1741 Essington Road, Joliet. There will be a variety of items from crafts, accessories, Christmas gifts and more. Admission is free. All proceeds support the ministries of First Assembly of God.

Rock Our World: 7 to 11 p.m. Nov. 21, at Knights of Columbus Hall, 100 S. 129th Infantry Drive, Joliet. A '50s and '60s dance to benefit the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic. Band X will perform. Toys for Tots deadline: The Plain- field Fire Protection District will be collecting toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Donations can now be dropped off at all fire stations as well as at the administration building in downtown Plainfield through Dec. 9. Please only donate new toys and do not gift wrap the toys.
