Briefs: Roadside safety checks

CREST HILL -- District 5 state police, partnering with the Will County Sheriff's Office, will conduct a Roadside Safety Check this weekend in Crest Hill, Capt. Michael Cooke announced.

Officers working these details will watch for drivers operating unsafe vehicles, driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license, transporting open alcohol and driving under the influence.

Alcohol and drug impairment remains a significant factor in more than 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.

The safety check is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Women's wellness
PLAINFIELD -- The annual Women's Health and Wellness Fair, sponsored by state Rep. Tom Cross, R-Oswego, will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the C.W. Avery YMCA, 5120 Wallin Drive.

Available will be information on a variety of topics concerning family finances, health and wellness.

Fifty vendors scheduled to participate in the event.

The first 250 to arrive will receive a free stress ball.

ROMEOVILLE -- Romeoville High School Principal John Sparlin's community forum tonight at the Romeoville Recreation Center has been canceled because of an unforeseen conflict. The next forum will be Dec. 1 at High Point Community Church.
