Robbery suspect finds it's not his lucky day

Police say one punk felt lucky after robbing a bank Thursday morning. Deputy Chief Patrick Kerr said Jack R. Menolascina, 48, was taken into custody after allegedly using his ill-gotten gains to buy lottery tickets at a nearby gas station. Police were called to the Bank of America at Jefferson Street and Stryker Avenue with reports of a robbery at 11:29 a.m.

Coach John Jackson and his Plainfield Central Wildcats showed Friday night they still have a fair amount of work to do. But even with having to clean up a little sloppy play and a breakdown on kick coverage, they won't be able to improve much on their running game in a 47-25 season-opening win over Elgin.

Plainfield South football coach Mike Briscoe said it was imperative that his Cougars get the new season off on the right foot.

Saavedra leads Celtics past Wildcats in soccer

It was Joe Saavedra to the rescue for the Providence Catholic High School boys soccer team. Saavedra scored 2 goals in the first half Wednesday, leading the Celtics to a 2-1 nonconference victory over Plainfield Central. Alec Pickett made 17 saves for Providence (2-3).
