Deerfield holds off Zion-Benton

August 30, 2008

Jason Hendel completed 10 of 16 passes for 133 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Warriors past host Zion-Benton 33-26 on Friday.

Hendel’s second TD pass of the game was a five-yarder to Kyle Magnus with 1:09 left in the third quarter and gave the Warriors a 33-19 lead.

Zion closed to within seven points when QB T.J. Trepanier (14 of 22, 153 yards, 0 int.) hit Cerellis Lockett with a seven-yard TD pass with 1:18 left.

But Deerfield’s Austin Friedman recovered the ensuing onside kick to secure the win.

Earlier, Lockett returned a kickoff 92 yards for a Zion score, and the Bees got a three-yard TD run from Henry McDaniel (13 carries, 62 yards).

Deerfield’s Sean Sally rushed 16 times for 59 yards and 1 TD, and Hendel carried 16 times for another 73 yards.
