Lake Forest High's girls soccer team won its second consecutive North Suburban Conference Championship Game on Thursday night, but not without a little drama.
The host Scouts, winners of the NSC Lake Division, topped Prairie winner Vernon Hills 2-0 to claim the overall league title.
Lake Forest needed help from their top player Rachel Quon to pull out the victory, but surprising not just from Quon's ability to put ball in the back of the net.
After tallying the game's first goal in the 42nd minute of the second half, Quon was forced into the nets as her team's goalkeeper.
Ahead 2-0, Lake Forest starting keeper Taylor Edwards was red-carded after an illegal touch of the ball outside the goalie box in the 57th minute. With backup keeper ( Finley Amato ) injured during warm-ups, Quon took over in the nets and made three saves to preserve the win, despite the Scouts (16-2-1) playing one-player short because of the red card.
Edwards and Quon had plenty of help defensively the entire night, as Kelsey Goon , Annie Evans and Katharine McCauley all had solid game in back.
Vernon Hills freshman keeper Iris Ostrovsky came up big for the Cougars (10-6-2) with 12 saves, but she couldn't prevent the game's second goal in the 44th minute, as Nicole Lipp blasted one home after taking a pass from Megan Bourne . Prep Girls Soccer
