When the non-conference contest finally ended, Lake Forest rode home a 65-52 winner that improved the Scouts to 4-2, dropped Wauconda to 3-3 and puts the losing team’s playoff hopes in serious jeopardy.
Wauconda still has difficult games left with powerful Grant next Saturday and against unbeaten Vernon Hills.
Friday’s marathon-like contest didn’t end until after 11 a.m.
There were stars everywhere, but none shined brighter than Lake Forest junior quarterback Thomas Rees.
The area’s best passer threw touchdown passes of 3 and 99 yards to Connor Moutvic, 65 yards to John Cavalaris, and 87 yards to David Head.
He finished the game 19 of 37 passing for 430 yards. Moutvic caught six catches for 130 yards. Head had eight catches.
Lake Forest also moved the ball on the ground. Eric Gerber rushed 20 times for 175 yards and Cavalaris carried 10 times for 115 as the Scouts piled up more than 700 yards of offense.
Meanwhile, Wauconda’s Garrett Dorsey was matching him on the other side of the field.
The Bulldog quarterback ran for 2 touchdowns, passed for 1 and returned kickoffs 78 and 80 yards in the second quarter for 2 more scores.
Dorsey was 13 for 20 passing for 202 yards.
Sean Lichterman, Wauconda’s fine running back, carried 29 times for 193 yards and 3 TDs. He also caught one touchdown pass.
