LINCOLNSHIRE – Junior pile driver Mark Weisman scored four touchdowns Saturday as the Stevenson Patriots bested the Lake Forest Scouts 33-0.

The pile-driving Weisman punched in TDs from 1, 1 and 2 yards out before breaking away for a 37 yard score late in the game. He compiled 125 yards rushing on 19 carries.

The Homecoming Game was the debut of Stevenson’s new FieldTurf, and the new surface was sorely needed as the game was played in a driving rain that had been coming down for two solid days.

It was the opening North Suburban Conference Lake Division game for both teams and gave Stevenson its first win of the year after two tough losses to open the season. Lake Forest is 2-1 on the season.

Stevenson’s defense, aided by the downpour, kept the prolific passing of junior quarterback Tom Rees of Lake Forest in check. Rees, the leading passer in Lake County going into the game, was held to just 74 yards passing on a 12 for 27 day. He was intercepted three times, twice by ex-Chicago Bull Stacy King’s son, Erick King and once by Bradford Backer.

Stevenson led 21-0 at halftime, with Weisman scoring twice and Josh Vavrick scoring on a 15-yard run late in the second quarter.

The Scouts could not match the successful ground game of the more physical Patriots, and were able to rush the ball for just 50 yards on the day compared to the 232 yards piled up by Stevenson.

Lake Forest travels to Warren for another tough contest on Friday, while Stevenson will be at Lake Zurich in a battle of Lake Division unbeatens.
