Cougars split doubleheader in softball

May 11, 2008

ELMHURST – The Vernon Hills Cougars split a non-conference doubleheader to the York Dukes Saturday, winning the first game 3-2 and dropping the second by the same score. The loss was only the team’s fourth of the year against 26 wins.

Jackie Allen won her 16th game against just one defeat, going the distance in game one. She struck out eight and gave up just six hits. York threatened in the final frame, scoring both of its runs before Allen doused the comeback fire.

Erin Christensen, Anastasia Goletsky and Jessica Schwartz each had three hits for the Cougars, with Schwartz swatting a home run.

Vernon Hills drew first blood in game two, scoring a pair in the second inning. But the Dukes rallied for one in the second and two in the third, while the Cougars went scoreless the rest of the way.

Marci Pasquesi was the only Vernon Hills player to get multiple hits, getting two singles.

The Cougars host Lake Forest on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
