Bears win doubleheader over Cary-Grove

May 11, 2008

LAKE ZURICH – The Lake Zurich Bears, behind the resilient arm of Katie Buczynski, swept a non-conference Saturday doubleheader against Cary Grove, 1-0 and 4-1, with their ace winning both games.

Buczynski fanned twelve in the opener, yielding just four hits to take the pitching duel. Coryn Schmit accounted for the lone run with a homer in the first inning.

Buczynski also got the win in game two, throwing six innings and fanning six, again yielding four hits. Lake Zurich scored two in the first and one in the third before Cary-Grove finally plated its only run of the day in the sixth inning. Lake Zurich immediately answered with another run in the bottom half of the same inning.

The hitting star in game two was Alex Block, who went 2 for 3 with a triple, a run and an RBI.

The Bears are now 22-3 on the season, having finished a perfect 12-0 in the North Suburban Conference, Lake Division.

Their next game is Monday at Wauconda.
