Vernon Hills softball continues winning ways
Vernon Hills High's girls softball team continued its domination of North Suburban Conference foes when the Cougars powered past host Stevenson 8-3 in a non-division game on Wednesday. Vernon Hills improved to 24-3 overall and 16-0 against opponents in the NSC. The Cougars are also the champions of the NSC Prairie Division with a perfect 11-0 record heading into today's division finale against Grant.
Jackie Allen upped her record to 15-1 on the mound for Vernon Hills, as she scattered 9 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Marci Pasquesi (2 for 4), Alyssa Dougherty (3 for 4, home runs, 3 RBIs) and Anastasia Golofsky (2 for 4, 2 doubles) were the hitting stars.
SofTball
Waukegan 4, Evanston 0: Stephanie Rodriguez fired a 1-hitter with 8 strikeouts to pace the Bulldogs (7-15 overall, 2-8 in the CSL South). Lindsay Payne led the offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Boys Volleyball
Stevenson def. Mundelein: The Patriots (19-13 overall, 6-2 in the NSC) held of the Mustangs 25-22, 25-20 behind 6 kills each from Drew Vravick and Matt Ockrim . Top players for the Mustangs were Mitchell Baumgartner (6 kills) and John McElligott (5 kills).
Vernon hills def. Libertyville : The Cougars wrapped up the NSC title with a 23-25, 25-19, 25-29 win over the Cats to improve to 17-11 overall and 8-0 in the league. Ernie Choi had 10 kills, while Keegan Harris contributed 8 kills.
Baseball
Grayslake Central 2, Huntley 1: The Rams' Kevin O'Rourke fired a complete-game five-hitter on the mound, while Matt Schmidt delivered a game-tying single and Angelo Gargano doubled home Schmidt for the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Antioch 10, Niles North 2 : The Sequoits upped their record to 13-9 behind the hitting of Jim Fracek (2 doubles), Ken Karagiorgas (2 for 3, RBI) and Alec Paramski (2 for 3). Andy Kloster tossed 5 solid innings for the win on the mound.
Girls Soccer
LAkes 1, Libertyville 0: A goal by Ashley Chernick in the 10th minute held up for the Eagles (12-8) in the non-division clash on Wednesday. Alex Neal assisted on the goal with a solid cross, while Jessica Schroeder earned the shut out in goal with 8 saves.
