Kennedy shines as Devils top Mundelein

Warren High pitcher Sean Kennedy fired a complete-game four-hit shutout as the Blue Devils topped host Mundelein 2-0 on Tuesday, putting a damper on the Mustangs' North Suburban Conference Lake Division title chase.

Kennedy struck out 6 and walked only 2 as he evened his record at 4-4 on the season.

Ryan Economos (1 for 3, run) and Pat Walters (1 for 1, RBI) were the hitting stars for the Blue Devils (13-11).

Baseball

Zion-Benton 6, Lake Forest 3: The Zee-Bees were led by pitcher Tanner Mathesien, who scattered 7 hits with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks in the complete-game win. Nick Soldano (2 fo4 4, double, RBI) and T.J. Trepanier (2-run home run) were the hitting stars. Lake Zurich 10, Stevenson 0: The Bears kept pace in the NSC Lake title chase behind the hitting of Reid Bergstrom (2 home runs, 4 RBIs) and winning pitcher Joey DeBernardis (2 for 2, double).

Waukegan 6, MAine South 5 : Mike Clark hurled a complete-game for the Bulldogs, while Denzale Denson (2 for 3, triple) and Jonathan French (2 for 4, double, 2 RBIs) sparked the offense.

Highland Park 10, Maine East 0: Hitting stars for the Giants (16-5 overall, 10-2 in the CSL North) were Jon Menke (2 doubles, 2 RBIs), Jason Stein (3 for 3, double, 3 runs) and Jimmy Risi (home run, 3 RBIs), while Garrett Gordon (4-1) earned the five-inning pitching win.

Antioch 10, Lakes 1: The Sequoits wrapped up the NSC Prairie title on Tuesday, as they improved to 12-9 overall and 10-1 in the division. Logan Kent (2 for 4, home run, 3 RBIs), Andy Danna (2 for 3, double) and Jim Fracek (2 for 4) led the way at the plate.

Boys Lacrosse

Mundelein 12, Grayslake North 9: A four-goal performance by Michael Petlak paced the Mustangs.

Boys Volleyball

Carmel def. Notre Dame: The Corsairs prevailed 25-19, 25-18 behind the play of Josh Garwood (8 kills, 7 solo blocks), Zach Engels (6 kills) and Mike Geske (10 assists).

Boys Tennis

Grayslake Central 5, Huntley 2: The Rams swept the singles matches with wins going to Mitch Granger at No. 1, Jon Yee at No. 2 and Roy Pienaar at No. 3.

Z-B 3, NORTH CHICAGO 2: Kevin Weyant of Zion-Benton beat Ashton Irby 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles as the Zee-Bees posted a non-conference win. At No. 2 singles, North Chicago's Greg Miller beat DeShawn Coleman 6-1, 6-0. North Chicago's doubles win was at No. 3. The team of Jonathan Rosario-Eziekiel Domoal beat Andy Olevera-Martin Moreno 5-7, 7-6, 7-6. Zion won the other two doubles matches in straight sets.

SOFTBALL

Lake Zurich 3, Stevenson 0: The Bears (19-3) remained unbeaten in the NSC Lake at 11-0 behind the one-hit pitching of Katie Buczynski, who struck out 11 and walked only 1.

Vernon Hills 2, Grant 0: The NSC Prairie champion Cougars (23-3, 11-0) used a strong pitching performance from Jackie Allen (6 Hs, 6 Ks, 2 Ws) to shutout the Bulldogs.

Prairie Ridge 8, Grayslake North 3 : Despite solid hitting from Amanda Leon (3 for 4, double), Hilary Kuhl (3 for 3), Carly Borders (2 for 4, double) and Sam Fletcher (2 for 4, 3 RBIs), the Knights (7-14) dropped Tuesday's contest.

Zion-Benton 5, Lake Forest 1 : Becky Taylor struck out 8 and allowed only 3 hits on the mound for the Bees, while Ryleigh Sears (2 for 3, 2 runs) and Abby Hanson (1 for 2, 2 RBIs) led the way at the plate. Prep notes
