Carlisle, Izzo in mix for head job

April 24, 2008

The Bulls have met with Rick Carlisle concerning their head coaching position, and Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Michigan State's Tom Izzo may be a candidate.

Yahoo! reported that Carlisle was granted the first interview by the Bulls and that he made a "strong impression." A source confirmed to the Sun-Times that Carlisle has been interviewed by Bulls general manager John Paxson.

Carlisle is considered to be in the same mold as Scott Skiles, whom the Bulls fired on Christmas Eve. He's perceived as a solid strategist and was the NBA's coach of the year for the 2001-02 season.

Izzo would be an interesting candidate considering how poorly the last college coach did with the Bulls in Tim Floyd.
