Zion team to play Sunday for Bantam Division title

The Zion Benton Jr. Zee-Bees' Big-10 (top-league) Bantam Division (little guys) youth football team has made it to the championship game in the Chicagoland Youth Football League's Ultimate Division.

The Bees reached the finals by beating the Waukegan Chiefs 19-13 last weekend.

This team of players age 7-8 has an overall record of 6-3 in the competitive league. They will face the Vernon Hills Cougars this weekend for the championship trophy.

The Jr. Zee-Bees are coached by Ed Peavey and he's helped by John Overbey. The team has come a long way since August, when it started practice and struggled out of the blocks 0-2 with just one TD total in tow games.

Since the, the Bees have outscored their oppoennts 139-25.

In the first round of the playoffs, they blanked the North Chicago Flames 8-0, and then followed that up with the win over Waukegan.

Players on the team come from Zion, Beach Park and the Harbor.

The championship game willbe played at 2:30 p.m. Sunday on the artificial turf at Carmel High in Mundelein.

Team members include Dakota Meyers, Jerimiah Suber, Jaylen Hilton, Ahmiel Brown, Matthew Overbey, Marc Henriquez, Dylan West, Torres Childs, Hunter Moore, William Norris, Octavious Moore, Craig Hall, Jonathan Castro, J'Air Atkins, Austin Montejano, Shane Lewis, Joseph Settecase, Nik Powers and Brian Dowdell.
