Home team does well in Seahorse Invite

November 12, 2009

Seven teams competed last weekend at a youth swim meet hosted by the Waukegan-based Northern Lake County YMCA Seahorses.

The Seahorses, although fourth in the team scoring, had several swimmers earn the high-point awards for their age group.

That list included Ava Claire Turner and Brooke Sturt (tie in girls 6-under division), Tyler Howard (boys 9-10), Caroline Nonnenmacher (girls 11-12) and Sierra Cook (girls 13-14).

"We were really excited about the great swims our kids had," said Seahorses coach Mike Hewitt. "Nearly everyone had at least one personal- best time of the season, and it was clear the swimmers have made a lot of progress in many different areas."

Next up for the Seahorses is the Thanksgiving Day Invitational in Naperville, which, of course, will not be held on Thanksgiving Day. It's slated for Nov. 21-22.
