Lake Zurich advances to Class 7A quarterfinals

November 7, 2009

Max Methling kicked three field goals, and Jacob Brinlee’s nine-yard touchdown run with 1 minute 56 seconds left gave Lake Zurich a 30-28 victory over Crystal Lake South on Saturday in the Round of 16 of the IHSA Class 7A prep football playoffs.

The Bears are now 8-3 and will play on the road against either Prospect or Wheaton North in the quarterfinals next weekend.

Methling hit from 35 yards in the first quarter, 44 yards just before the end of the first half, and 26 yards in the fourth quarter.

His last field goal gave Lake Zurich a 24-21 lead, and Brinlee’s TD run with 1:56 to play sealed the win at 30-21. CL South (9-2) scored a consolation touchdown in the final seconds.

Methling also plays defense on Lake Zurich’s soccer team, which played Lyons of LaGrange on Saturday night at North Central College for the IHSA Class 3A state title.
