Names change, results stay the same in the NSC tournament

Lake Forest wins league tourney again

October 2, 2008

WAUKEGAN -- Mundelein and Stevenson have been among the teams that have been trying to turn around the Lake Forest High boys golf team's dominance in the North Suburban Conference for several seasons.

Last year, the Patriots came close in the NSC tournament, losing to the Scouts by just one stroke.

This season, Mundelein gave it a shot, but the Mustangs could get only within seven strokes of Lake Forest -- 308-315 -- at Wednesday's NSC tourney here at Midlane. Stevenson finished in third place at 314, with Zion-Benton posting a strong fourth-place total of 321.

Lake Forest senior Johnny Glyman topped individually with an even-par 72, four strokes ahead of Mundelein's Sean Forsythe (76).

Four other players -- including Lake Forest senior Drew Kenning -- carded 77s. Peter Marshall (9th, 78) and John Boyle (18th, 81) also counted in the Scouts' team total.

Jon Henricks (4th, 77) and Eric Nelson (7th, 78) combined with Forsythe to give Mundelein three solid scores, but the rest of the Mustangs struggled on the day.

Zion-Benton's Garrett Newman (5th, 77) and Jake Smith (8th, 78) were solid top 10 individual finishers, with Westin Andrews (82) and Aaron Archibald (84) also playing well to help the Zee-Bees earn a fourth-place team finish.
