Wildcats fall to Bears

September 13, 2008

Libertyville fell to a surprising 0-3 on the season with a 17-7 loss to host Lake Zurich in a NSC Lake opener on Friday.

Libertyville struck first when James Zotto caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Matt Persin late in the opening quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Lake Zurich (2-1) tied the game at 7-7 with 6:43 left in the second quarter on Tom Flaherty’s 8-yard run.

The Bears took a 14-7 lead into halftime when quarterback Tanner Witt hooked up with Andrew Maloney in a 1-yard TD pass with just 19 seconds remaining.

A 21-yard field goal late in the third quarter by Lake Zurich’s Matt Methling was the only points scored in the second half.
