Mustangs survive opening-night scare

A big opening-night crowd and high expectations greeted Mundelein High's boys basketball team when it took to the floor on Monday night against Grayslake Central on the first night of the Mustangs' Thanksgiving tournament. Mundelein didn't always live up to the hype, but the Mustangs were able to escape with a victory over a pesky Rams squad.

It will be another 118 days until our area finally ends a string of 102 years without capturing a state title in the sport of boys basketball.

Level 7 girls lead way for Gurnee-based club

The Level 5, 6, and 7 girls gymnasts at Ultimate Gymnastics in Gurnee started the competitive season with strong performances at the North Illinois Judges Cup. The Level 7 squad led the way, as its team score qualified it for the National Judges Cup, to be held in Cincinnati in January. The Level 7 girls were dominant in the 7-11 age group.
