A day of healing for suicide survivors

Every 16 minutes someone in the United States commits suicide. Every 17 minutes someone is left to make sense of it. Saturday was the National Survivors of Suicide Day where thousands of people watched a broadcast from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, including about a dozen people in Mundelein Fire Department's community room.

Atlantis astronauts take 2nd spacewalk of mission

A spacewalking astronaut put aside the impending birth of his daughter and blazed through his first-ever venture outside the international Space Station on Saturday. Expectant father Randolph Bresnik and Michael Foreman installed new antennas, relocated a monitor for electrical hazards, set up an attachment for a spectrometer due to arrive next year.

Turkey and trimmings are served up in Antioch

It was a feast for families and neighbors. According to Paul Howard of Antioch Senior Center, more than 1,0oo people were served at the Thanksgiving Community Dinner Saturday at the Senior Center. The meal was sponsored by the Senior Center, Antioch Chamber of Commerce, Piggly Wiggly and the Open Arms Mission. The dinner was open to anyone, seniors and families and volunteers of all ages helped serve the meal.

Outrage over attack that killed Gizmo

Gizmo, Tanya Anderson's 1-year-old Shih Tzu, died earlier this month after an unprovoked attack from a neighbor's dog.

Because of that incident, village officials are considering more stringent punishment for the owners of vicious animals. Anderson was standing in her driveway with Gizmo on a leash when two dogs off leash reportedly attacked Gizmo.

Gurnee pharmacist, customers charged in drug bust

A pharmacist has been charged with selling controlled substances over the counter without a prescription following a six-month undercover investigation.
The pharmacist, Jagga Grandhi, 59, of Long Grove, allegedly sold Vicodin, Xanax and morphine for cash at RX Tower Pharmacy, 15 Tower Court, off Washington Street near the Greenleaf Avenue medical corridor.
He was charged with 13 counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance after his arrest
