A toddler died Thursday after the car she was riding in with her parents was hit by car that blew a stop sign in Zion. Idaliz Lopez of the 2100 block of Elisha Avenue, nearly 2 years old, was in a forward-facing child safety seat when her mother's minivan.

The City Council is working on an action plan after some residents in the 2100 block of Wallace Avenue noticed holes in ash trees on parkways and some on private property. When Ken Crede ventured outside to work in his yard Thursday, little did he and his family know it would be the last time they would see their American bull terrier alive. The Credes say 4-year-old Cain was needlessly shot by a Lake County sheriff's deputy. Cain was shot once by the deputy, who was in the 9000 block of Paddock Avenue after a woman in the area reported that a loose pit bull tried to attack her. "He did not even say anything. He just shot my dog," Crede said.
