Downtown holiday spirit

Waukegan Main Street decorated downtown Waukegan for the holidays after learning the city did not have the budget for it. Main Street assembled volunteers and put them to work Sunday morning. "Waukegan Main Street is working really hard to pull this together. Without Waukegan Main Street, it (holiday decorating) would have slipped through the cracks," said a Main Street board member.

Man killed by car

Officials are still investigating the death of a Round Lake man who died Saturday evening after being struck by a car, said police Gurnee Police Cmdr. William Meyer. Larry Polejewski was struck at 6 p.m. while crossing Grand Avenue at Spruce Street. A 73-year-old driver was driving a 2003 Crown Victoria west on Grand when he struck Polejewski.

North Shore School District forming planning team

Crowd-pleasing community Thanksgiving

It was a feast for families and neighbors. Callie Moulton, 65, went to her first Thanksgiving Community Dinner Saturday at the Antioch Senior Center on an invitation by her neighbor, Betty Coari, 76. "We had a nice afternoon together," said Moulton. "It was delicious." The meal was sponsored by the center, Antioch Chamber of Commerce, Piggly Wiggly and the Open Arms Mission.

Antique tractors pull to benefit A Safe Place

Eight antique tractors chugged along at about 12 mph, taking about half an hour to wend their way on their route, which started at North Prairie United Methodist Church in Winthrop Harbor and headed west on 9th Avenue to Kilbourne Road, and then went north to Russell Road, ending at the R&R Crossing tavern. The annual tractor parade benefits A Safe Place.

Atlantis astronauts take 2nd spacewalk of mission

Expectant father Randolph Bresnik and Michael Foreman installed new antennas, relocated a monitor for electrical hazards, set up an attachment for a spectrometer due to arrive next year.
