Goodwill moving into closed office store

Goodwill Industries in Round Lake Beach will remodel and move into the former Office Depot building on Route 83, across from Home Depot. John Wildenberg, planning and economic development director, said the plan is to redevelop the five acres, formerly the site of Frank's Nursery and later an office supply store.

PROMOTED: Northbrook-based Pine Tree Commercial Realty has announced the promotion of Jennifer Quint of Gurnee to senior property manager. Quint, 28, joined Pine Tree in 2005 as property manager, primarily overseeing the company's Midwestern retail properties. Currently, she manages 17 centers totaling approximately 680,000 square feet of retail space. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 2005 with a bachelor of fine arts degree, and additional studies in accounting and business.

An explosion that sounded like a sonic boom blew out walls of an unfinished power plant and set off a fire during a test of natural gas lines Sunday, killing at least five workers and injuring a dozen or more. The explosion at the Kleen Energy Systems plant in Middletown, about 20 miles south of Hartford, could be heard and felt for miles.

The Lake County Farm Bureau wants you to say "G'day" to Yellow Tail wine. The bureau maintains that the Australian vintner is seeking to prevent Lake County farmers from earning a living by contributing to the Humane Society of the United States. The Humane Society has announced it will receive a $100,000 donation from a campaign they call "tails for tails" in which Yellow Tail is donating the money to support programs to help animals.
