Medlicott flag ceremony
After the Veterans Day crowd dispersed in downtown Waukegan on Wednesday, another much smaller but no less solemn ceremony was held at Waukegan High School's Washington Campus, home of the Alternative Optional Educational Center. A flag first raised on Veterans Day 2008 in honor of Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Medlicott, a former AOEC student, was retired.
Family members and friends hold hands in prayer around the memorial at Waukegan High School AOEC campus for U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Medlicott who was killed in Iraq in 2007. A flag ceremony was held to retire the flag placed at his memorial after one year and replace it with a new flag.
