'400' owner had 12 children

April 27, 2009

Most of the Perez family worked at the 400 Cafe.

The 400 Cafe was owned and operated by Edward Perez and family from the 1950s to the 1970s, located at 18 N. Spring St. The owner was the father of 12 children. Most of them worked at the cafe to keep the business open.

The "400" catered to other businesses like Johnson Motors, Chicago and North Western Railroad, Lewis Company, Commercial Hotel, Time Table Tavern, Turner Hall, Hilltip Fish Market, The Junk Yard, as well as many sailors from Great Lakes Naval Center and many many other places of business.

By the way, seven of the Perez daughters met their husbands at the "400."

Many people even today remember the 400 Cafe, and we certainly share and remember and laugh over fond memories.
