TALK OF THE COUNTY

November 3, 2009

Orderly lines

Kudos to the Lake County Health Department and Round Lake Beach. Even though there were thousands of people waiting for the H1N1 flu shots on Oct. 29, everything was orderly and went smoothly. Waiting in line for five hours can never be fun, but everyone was courteous and friendly, and the best was made of a difficult situation,

Camera tickets

Is there anybody else in Waukegan that have had red-light camera tickets mailed to them because you supposedly didn't stop. How does that camera know if you didn't stop or not?

Garbage in, out

This is about the election for the Warren sports complex. The garbage cans were appropriate because the idea that it was an election is garbage. I'm sure the senior citizens had a lot of say in that matter.

Bushism

If Obamaism is "get into debt and spend as much money as you can," then what is Bushism? I think that he did it before Obama, plus he lied.

Havana daydreamin'

Major League Baseball will have to come up with a neutral site in a warm climate for the Fall Classic, just as the NFL did for the Super Bowl. Havana, anyone? Anyone?

H1N1 panic

If the CDC is reporting 5 to 20 percent of Americans get seasonal flu each year and 36,000 people die from related causes, why is H1N1 being deemed a "national emergency"? Last time I checked, 1,000 deaths after "millions of cases" (as reported by The Associated Press this week) is less than one-tenth of a percent -- and that's before the vaccine was widely available. So what's the panic about really?

Pelosi and Reid

Our health-care reform bill went from 1,500 to 1,990 pages. Pelosi and Reid are behind this. They are the ones that need to be reformed, not health care. People that are paying for their health care know what it costs when they have to go to the doctor. But Pelosi and Reid want to mess everything up.

Genesee acts

Waukegan already goes out of its way to cater to the Hispanics. Go to the Sundance, The Rodeo or the Latin Rapper concert. What's wrong with the acts booked at the Genesee Theatre now? Hispanics don't like Celtic music, the comedy of Bill Cosby or the music of the Beatles?

Warren vote

Once again, Warren Township has a vote and no one knows about it except the people that are going to vote "yes." This is a thing that Warren Township does all the time and has been doing it over the years. They put stuff together and have a secret vote. It's very lopsided and one-sided, and it should be done when everyone else is voting -- during the election.

Blame Obama!

I've yet to see a story that mentions President Obama in connection with the current shortage of H1N1 vaccine, much less one that in any way blames him. The flu scare on Bush's watch in 2004 was not seasonal flu. It was a worrisome new type H5N1, called Bird Flu, and the problem was that half the vaccine supply could not be used because it was contaminated.

Senior vaccinations

To the person who thinks that Obama isn't giving H1N1 vaccine to seniors: I personally vaccinated many seniors on the first day of the Lake County vaccination clinics with that very same vaccine. So, if you don't know what you are talking about, just shut up and stop inciting fear and rage. That goes for the rest of you troublemakers, too.

The system

Is there something wrong with the system? My daughter had to stand in line early in the morning hours of Oct. 29 for an H1N1 shot for her 4-year-old son who is afflicted with a liver disease. It was cold and seems unreasonable that we do not have enough of the inoculation to go around. Also, why haven't the hospitals and doctors' offices received the shot?

Name game

If a liberal is a progressive, does that make a conservative a regressive?

Help them

To the person whose daughter and granddaughter are being evicted from their home because of high unemployment: As a Democrat, I apologize that Obama is taking so long to clean up Bush's disastrous domestic policies or lack there of. Perhaps you're going to have to help your loved ones yourself. After all, that's what a true conservative would say to you.
