TALK OF THE COUNTY
October 29, 2009
I praise the student that reported the gun to the physical education teacher at Waukegan. More students should be like that. We have to team up together and show people that we won't put up with this dangerous stuff. I'm very proud of that student that spoke up and wasn't afraid.
Veterans of Lake County had a very happy day Oct. 21 at the Veterans Assistance office in Waukegan. The office provided free hair cuts, winter coats, hats, bagged lunches and all types of information that veterans are entitled.
The Lake County Health Department will be giving out H1N1 vaccines this week. Pregnant U.S. citizens should be entitled to go to the front of the line. My tax dollars pay for these vaccines. Illegal immigrants should not be entitled to them.
Amen
Thank God for a hardworking sump pump.
For the kids
I've been a resident of Beach Park long before it was a village and about 98 percent of the time I've agreed with what has been going on with the Village Board. But the Halloween trick-or-treat times are from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. Come on! Little kids that trick-or-treat won't be out after 5:30 p.m. because it will be dark. Am I going to get those guys that have a beard and cigarette again? I'll turn my lights off at 5:30 p.m. and put my candy away. This is supposed to be for little kids, not grown ups. Don't do this again next year.
Are all of you socialists begging for government health care happy with how the government is handling the H1N1 vaccination program? It is a great example of how government-run health care will be.
I'm concerned about children being cared for by persons who aren't qualified to do so. Day care services is a very serious business and carries a great responsibility. That's why I can't understand why family members and friends are not required to be licensed by the state, not required to purchase a business license or pay union dues. This is not fair for those who provide services with the proper credentials. Children's safety is at stake.
To the person that said Obama didn't inherit problems from Bush: What rock are you hiding under? Of course he inherited problems from the previous administration. Just because he campaigned for the position doesn't mean he didn't inherit problems.
Check the dictionary
Obamaism: Go in debt as far as you can, spend all you can and get rid of as much money as you can. That is Obamaism.
Jobs promised
People are very disgusted with our government. Our president promised jobs and now we have over 10 percent unemployment. Shame on him. My granddaughter and her babies are being thrown out of their house because there are no jobs for them. Who helps them? Nobody. What is wrong with our society?
Dysfunctional families
Our youngsters are not bad. They can be good. They didn't ask to be a part of dysfunctional families with too many divorced parents and one-parent homes. Maybe our country should stop being arrogant and learn from other countries. Maybe it is time that after high school students go into the armed services for two years. Then maybe these dysfunctional parents will realize that children can be a blessing when everyone is trained to follow the rules.
Waukegan has changed throughout the years and the large percentage of people here are Hispanic. However, there are very few Hispanic acts at the Genesee Theatre. I think that would be a crowd that we would want to attract with Hispanic movies and shows.
I'm wondering how a 15-year-old kid can pass a $100,000 security system at school in the morning and be caught near the end of a school day by a P.E. teacher running up and down the streets of Waukegan to catch him. How did the teacher know if the gun was loaded or not? Wake up Waukegan!
I don't think we need a Latino running in the 1st Ward. Sam Cunningham is doing a great job and I think he should stay.
This is regarding the students receiving Monetary Program Grants. I think they should be required to give back something. An example would be work at a business and volunteer in the community. This would set an example that they are as willing to give as well as receive.
It was Oct. 23 dark, pouring rain and I had several errands to run from Gurnee to the Zion area. At least one-third of the people did not have their headlights on. The rest of us have to watch out for them. The police should just start giving tickets and maybe the word would get out that the law is in favor of the good drivers.
This is in response to your Oct. 23 "Darts & Laurels" about more motorcyclists being killed. There are a lot more motorcyclists in the world today and a lot more people driving SUVs not paying attention, talking on cell phones, painting their nails and killing us.
I would like the Waukegan police chief to come up with a list of ordinances and laws which they are willing to enforce. Also, I would like to know which wards they are going to enforce them in. I know the list will be a short one.
Thank you Dan Moran for your positive article Oct. 24 about Waukegan, Bowen Park and other things that go on in this town. It's nice to have something positive instead of negative headlines on the front page or on the editorial page.
The people showing up and blaming the Gurnee Village Board for the state of the Heroes Memorial are either uninformed or trying to turn this into some sort of political football. As a village resident, I think we all would have been better served by using the funds to maintain the already established and nicely done war memorial at Washington Street and O'Plaine Road. I think those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for this great country should be memorialized equally.
Anyone who believes death panels will come to fruition needs help badly. It's a myth!
This is a belated response to the person that thanked the cities of Waukegan and North Chicago for repaving Green Bay Road. I believe Green Bay Road is a state-maintained roadway and that neither city had anything to do with it. I can't speak for Waukegan, but in North Chicago the only progress seen in the last five years is higher property taxes, five sections of concrete sidewalk repaired on Argonne Drive and less services provided to the taxpayers. And the train horns blowing day and night sometimes sounds like a contest. It almost seems they want everyone to move out to make their jobs easier. The next comment will be about the School Board.
