Public health authorities are investigating an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease associated with two deaths at The Park at Vernon Hills, a retirement community. "We're taking every precaution," said Jane Woloson, The Park's executive director.

The Waukegan School Board will honor special education pioneer Robert E. Abbott on Tuesday. The board has invited current and retired employees to a special evening honoring the former district administrator and namesake of Robert E. Abbott Middle School.

A loud rumbling was their herald. It wasn't thunder on the sunny, 60-degree Sunday afternoon. It was a convoy of nearly 1,100 motorcyclists on the fifth annual Heroes Ride. Riders on 950 motorcyles turned out for the ride, a fund-raiser for The Heart of a Marine Foundation, which provides rehabilitation assistance to injured military personnel and veterans of all five military branches.
