Sponsors needed for Open Arms holiday program

November 4, 2009

ANTIOCH -- Open Arms Mission Food Pantry is seeking sponsors for children in need of Christmas gifts.

The mission serves residents in Lake Villa and Antioch townships. This year the program is being limited to gifts for children and games or other items that may be enjoyed by the whole family.

Individuals, families and groups from area churches or other organizations who adopt a family are asked to purchase, wrap and label gifts for dropoff in December. Sponsors are asked to contact the food pantry to receive information about a specific family in need before purchasing gifts.

The families who participate in the program are those who have few luxuries and struggle to provide basic necessities for their loved ones.

Open Arms Mission Food Pantry, 1548 Main St., Antioch, is the safety net that many people in Antioch, Lake Villa and Lindenhurst rely on every week for food assistance. It is a nonprofit organization funded by donations and staffed by volunteers.

For more information or to register to adopt a family, call Marytherese at (847) 395-0309.
