Three suspects held in string of burglaries

November 14, 2009

WINTHROP HARBOR -- Burglaries were on the rise here over the last several weeks, but recent arrests may have ended them and solved cases in Gurnee, Zion and unincorporated areas.

Field interviews led detectives to three suspects. Arrested were Billy Morrow, 18, of the 18000 block of Glenhurst, Lake Villa; Reginald Jackola, 18, of the 1000 block of Franklin Avenue, Zion; and Evan Demarr, 18, of the 2000 block of Elim Avenue, Zion, Winthrop Harbor police said.

Police searched Demarr's home and found numerous items that matched items taken from reported burglaries. After being interviewed, the suspects admitted to burglaries in other jurisdictions.

Jackola was charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and theft over $300, a Class 3 felony. Morrow and Demarr were charged with five counts of burglary to a motor vehicle, a Class 3 felony, police said.

Additional charges are expected after further review by the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.

Police expect this investigation to close out more than 25 vehicle burglary cases.
