Care package drive for Fort Sheridan unit in Afghanistan
HIGHWOOD -- State Rep. Karen May, D-Highland Park, has launched a drive to support the Fort Sheridan-based 719th Medical Detachment stationed in Afghanistan.
Working with VFW Post 4737's Adopt-a-Unit program, May will receive donations at her Highwood office through Nov. 20.
"Any and all donations of the (listed) items would be greatly appreciated by our men and women in service", May said.
Donations can be dropped at the office, 427 Sheridan Road, from 9 a.m. to noon daily through Nov. 20.
Area residents are invited to a reception at the office at 11 a.m. Nov. 20 to celebrate sending the care packages.
Target items include:
Body wipes, sunscreen, socks, hand sanitizer, lens cleaner, toothbrushes/toothpaste, soap, Q-tips, shampoo/conditioner, razors, AA batteries, hard candy, energy bars, cookies, fruit snacks, granola bars, gum, pudding mix, Slim Jims/beef jerky.
Also, dried fruit, nuts, crackers, powdered drink mix, single-serve cans of food (soup, stew, pasta), single-serve packages of tuna, paperback books, magazines, crossword puzzle books, DVDs, CDs, pens, paper, envelopes, packaging tape, locking plastic bags of all sizes
