Cleanup teams praised by Round Lake Beach
ROUND LAKE BEACH -- Village officials lauded police officers and citizens Monday for their efforts in achieving a second-place showing in the annual Governor's Hometown Awards.
Round Lake Beach earned the honor in the beautification and cleanup category, according to Mayor Richard Hill. Police officials praised the involvement of community volunteers for the success of the villagewide cleanup.
"I think they deserve most of the credit themselves," Officer Greg Vanco said of the volunteer teams.
The community action teams, working in partnership with police, worked to beautify their areas of the village and met at least once a month.
"They are always willing to help," Vanco said of the volunteers.
About 20 members from teams in the Meadowbrook subdivision, east side, north side and Fairview Village attended Monday's board meeting.
"It's a good to see the work you have done and hope this continues to spread throughout the village," Hill said of the program.
Hill, Acting Police Chief Gary Bitler and Officer Paul Grace represented the village at the award ceremony in Springfield on Oct. 29.
In other business, trustees approved authorizing $325,000 for materials necessary for patching roads. Hill said this was a routine item needed so the village meets its state requirements for Motor Fuel Tax Funds.
Trustee Thomas Smith was named an alternate to Hill on the Cencom 911 Board for Round Lake area communities.
