Staben drops out of County Board race

November 6, 2009

Waukegan Township Clerk Rose Staben said Thursday she is withdrawing as a candidate for Lake County Board District 8 in the Feb. 2 primary election.

Staben, a Democrat, said she was withdrawing "with deepest regret," and declined to comment further. She had hoped to become the first Latina elected to the County Board.

Still in the race for District 8 are Waukegan Park District Board President Bill Durkin, a Democrat, and Green Party candidate Kevin Gartley of Waukegan.

Collin Michael O'Rourke, a Waukegan Democrat who was appointed to finish Robert Sabonjian's term in District 8 after Sabonjian was elected mayor of Waukegan, has said he will not seek election next fall.
