Shutterbug pleads not guilty to photographing women

November 5, 2009

A Mount Prospect man arrested for taking photographs of women as they walked to their cars appeared in Lake County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Ronald H. Witt, 45, faces 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine for disorderly conduct charges, a Class C misdemeanor.

He entered a not guilty plea to the charge during arraignment.

Witt was arrested by Deerfield police Oct. 8 during a traffic stop at the intersection of Lake-Cook and Pfingsten roads after it was reported he had been photographing a woman for several days.

Authorities became privy to Witt's actions Oct. 6 when a female told police he was stalking her. The woman said on three occasions she saw a man in his car watching her walk to her vehicle.

Authorities said Witt followed the woman out of a parking lot onto Lake-Cook Road. Another time it is believed he tracked the woman with Deerfield police in tow.

When Witt was stopped by police, officers found a disposable camera in his vehicle. After confiscating the camera investigators discovered several shots of women walking in parking lots. More than 70 additional photos were found in Witt's apartment, authorities said.

Witt did a similar thing in 2006, court documents said. He is scheduled to appear in court again Nov. 30.
