Benefit planned for teacher

November 5, 2009

A benefit is planned Sunday for Leslie (Cox) McCluskey, a teacher at KinderCare in Mundelein and a graduate of Round Lake High School, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She is 26.

Since her diagnosis, she has received an outpouring of support from the Mundelein and Round Lake communities. Sunday's benefit is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Round Lake Park District Sports Center Mezzanine, 2004 Municipal Way, Round Lake Beach.

The event will include food, carnival games and a raffle with thousands of dollars in prizes, including an autographed and framed Walter Payton Wheaties box.

Live entertainment will be provided by The American Autumn and Petro Band.

McCluskey underwent surgery in late August and recently began chemotherapy. But because she works with infants in a daycare, she is unable to work during her treatment. The benefit will help cover some of her medical expenses.

All proceeds will go to the "Friends of Leslie McCluskey Fund" at Harris Bank in Mundelein.
