Fire buff swap meet Saturday

October 29, 2009

MUNDELEIN -- Saturday marks the 30th anniversary of the Mundelein Fire Department's fire buff swap meet at Mundelein High School.

Firefighting paraphernalia, including antiques, collectables, knick-knacks, toys equipment and clothing will be on display from 60 vendors from across the nation and more than 132 tables, including participants like the Fire Buffs of Illinois and the Northern Illinois Fire Museum.

The event is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school, 1350 W. Hawley Street.

"Not only can you find great gifts for others, but if you are a hobbyist or simply love to exchange great firefighting stories or experiences, then this is the place for you," Mundelein Fire Chief Timothy Sashko said.

The swap started in the old Countryside Fire Station on Midlothian Road and then had to be moved to the high school to accommodate the vendors and visitors.

Food and beverages will be available and there is a $5 cover charge to support the Mundelein Firefighters Association. Children 12 and younger are free. For more information, go to www.mundeleinfire.org .
