Park City administrator accepts Lakemoor post
PARK CITY -- City Administrator David Alarcon has resigned his post and will become Lakemoor's first village administrator effective Nov. 9.
Alarcon, a former Park City police officer, has been the first staff administrator for the city of 6,700 since Jan. 2006.
"This is an exciting new career opportunity for me, and I look forward to helping Lakemoor's elected officials expand the community's progress," he said.
Alarcon said there are many similarities between the two towns and that his experience in Park City will be relevant in performing his new duties.
"Both communities are similar in population size, have a similar-sized village staff and budget, and are coping with many of the same challenges I faced in Park City," he said.
Lakemoor Mayor Todd Weihofen said hiring Alarcon on Oct. 22 adds a major new dimension to his village government.
While some trustees criticized the move as financially extravagant, Weihofen said the decision will pay for itself in the long run by improved services, staff efficiencies, and increased grant funding opportunities, just as Alarcon developed for Park City.
Park City Mayor Steve Pannell said Saturday that Alarcon's resignation is "a big loss for our city." He said Alarcon is highly respected by city residents.
"David did a phenomenal job. He was involved in just about every aspect of our community life. He will be missed, and extremely difficult to replace," Pannell said.
Both Pannell and Alarcon acknowledged that he was having difficulties in negotiating renewal of his staff salary and benefits contract with the Park City aldermen.
"Unfortunately, Mr. Alarcon's leaving is a result of failed communications in addressing the interests between employee and employer. We need to be more sensitive in listening to staff viewpoints," Pannell indicated.
