Streets a Halloween treat for kids

October 25, 2009

Downtown businesses in Antioch were besieged Saturday with witches, goblins, vampires and all sorts of creepy monsters.

Kids, dressed up in their favorite Halloween costumes with their parents in tow, turned out in droves for the second annual Treat the Streets event.

During the hours of noon to 5 p.m., participating merchants gave away candy and in some cases sponsored games where the children had the chance to win Frisbees, stuffed animals and other goodies.

The free afternoon event included two performances by magician Amazing Gary at PM&L Theatre, in the 800 block of Main St., at 1 and 2:30 p.m.

Last year the event attracted about 500 kids, said Laurie Stahl, parks director for Antioch. Even though Saturday was a bit chilly she expects this year's turnout to be at least as successful as last year.
