Gurnee
Veterans display: First Midwest Bank, 300 N. Hunt Club Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and honor veterans. The bank is partnering with retired Navy Chief Nathaniel Hamilton, who has displays of memorabilia to show at the bank on Veterans Day. The Future Business Leaders of America from Warren Township High School's Almond Road campus will set up and help Hamilton throughout the display. Those who plan to attend are asked to bring items for donation to help the 82nd Airborne, currently deployed in Afghanistan with some personal care items. Details, (847) 739-3872.

Veterans Day: American Legion Post 145 will hold a breakfast meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Country Kitchen Restaurant, 446 Central Ave. After breakfast, they will proceed to the veterans memorial at Central and St. Johns avenues for a short commemorative service to honor fallen and missing veterans. Veterans Day: Prince of Peace Veterans Day tribute will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 135 S. Milwaukee Ave. The event is sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 12315. All veterans, both living and deceased of all branches of service, and those currently serving and their families will be honored. This service will also honor all Catholic chaplains. Veterans Day: Veterans Day ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lindenhurst Veterans Memorial, Lindenhurst Village Hall, 2301 E. Sand Lake Road. The ceremonies will include the U.S. Marine Color Guard, the Lakes High School Band, and Lindenhurst VFW Post No. 4894. Keynote speaker will be Rear Adm. Waukegan
Veterans honored: Waukegan Township will honor all veterans at a Veterans Day celebration to be held at noon Saturday at Park Place Senior Center, 414 S. Lewis Ave. Lunch will be served, and Great Lakes Naval Band will present a musical salute. Waukegan High School JROTC will present the colors, and the JROTC drill team will perform. Speakers will include retired Army Maj. Carter Bell, JROTC Corps cadet commander Desiree Richardson, interim department head at Fisher Medical Center at Naval Station Great Lakes, and retired Army Maj. Al Clark, a current commander of American Legion Post 397 in North Chicago. Purple Heart recipients will receive special recognition, and Ron Golec will present a hand-carved cane to Frank Reinier, commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Society Chapter 323. SPECIAL SCREENING: On Veterans Day evening, the Genesee Theatre will open its doors for a special screening of Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning 1998 film "Saving Private Ryan." The 6:15 p.m. show will be free to all military personnel with ID, veterans and individuals who present their program from the city of Waukegan's Veterans Day parade. A $5 donation is suggested for all other patrons, with proceeds supporting veterans charities.
