April 24, 2008

HOUSTON (AP) -- Grammy-winning Tejano singer Emilio Navaira is starting his rehabilitation treatment after being severely injured in a bus crash a month ago.

Dr. Alex Valadka at Memorial Hermann hospital in Houston said Wednesday that it was "a major milestone" for the 45-year-old singer.

Navaira, known to has fans simply as Emilio, has released more than a dozen albums with his band. He won a Grammy for best Tejano album in 2003 with "Acuerdate."

Valadka said Navaira still has "a long way to ago" after his move to the hospital's rehabilitation center. The hospital is also where Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett recovered after becoming paralyzed during a game last year.
