Fund-raiser: Jade Huffines, who was born with cystic fibrosis, is currently in the hospital on a respirator and needs a lung transplant. Magic: Gorton Center for the Performing Arts announced a return engagement by award-winning illusionist Jason Bishop at a show suitable for all ages from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the center, 400 E. Illinois Road. The show features sleight of hand, grand illusions and "close-up" magic that is captured live and projected onto LCD screens so the audience can view every detail. Bishop is the youngest person ever to win the Magician's Alliance of Eastern States Stage Award, and one of the youngest people to compete in the Society of American Magicians World-Class Competition. Quilt show: The Northern Lake County Quilters Guild will present the quilt show Lake County Impressions from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, 2007 Civic Center Way. Highlights include more than 200 quilts on display, queen-size raffle quilt, antique bed turning, silent auction, special exhibits, vendor mall, demonstrations and a gift boutique with quilted items for sale in time for the holidays. Performance: Young dancers of Footprints Tap Ensemble will perform the annual concert, Tap Jam 2009, to be presented 7 p.m. Saturday at Vernon Hills High School, 145 N. Lakeview Parkway. This year's guest artists will be Jason Janas from Washington D.C., Becca Snow from New York, and Mark Yonally and Cait Jones from Chicago. Fund-raiser: Our House of Hope K-9 Rescue is having one of its largest charity events. Release party: Gamers on a mission to play the much-anticipated game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" can attend a special release party from 10 p.m. to midnight Monday at Blockbuster, 724 Green Bay Road. The event will feature a pre-release game demo and the chance to be among the first to rent, purchase or possibly win the game when it is released at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. Gala: The annual Lake County Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Scholarship Gala will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday at Milan Banquet Hall, 651 Lakehurst Road. Benefit: PFLAG Lake County's Benefit Show will be held at 10 p.m. Saturday at Club Icon, 6305 120th Ave. The evening will include the "I'm on a boat raffle" for an exclusive ride for the winner and 19 guests on the shores of Chicago on a multi-million dollar yacht for five hours during the 2010 boating season with food provided. This hour excursion is valued at $5,000; tickets cost $25 each with only 300 being sold. There will be a Men and Women in Uniform Date Auction. Bid on the single police officers and firefighters.
