Reining in Lindsay's dad

LiLo and mom try to block release of tapes discussing addiction

October 30, 2009

The stakes are very high in Lindsay Lohan's world this weekend. I've learned the actress and her mother, Dina, are attempting to orchestrate a ''summit'' with Michael Lohan, their estranged father and ex-husband.

It's a last-ditch effort to head off Michael's plans to release tapes of allegedly incriminating phone conversations with Dina about Lindsay and her battles with addiction.

According to Michael Lohan, the tapes back up his claims that Dina expressed fears drug and alcohol use would soon kill Lindsay. Word has it, LiLo and her mother are scrambling to come up with a hefty financial settlement -- that ''finally will shut Michael up and keep him out of the press and out of their lives forever,'' said a longtime Lindsay Lohan associate.

''But I'm not that optimistic. Michael is such a loose cannon, and I don't think they could ever raise enough money to keep him quiet -- especially since he's become so bitter and is so obsessed with Lindsay.''

• Although Lindsay lost more than $120,000 in cash, jewelry and electronics -- allegedly swiped by the recently charged ''Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch,'' led by Nick Prugo -- the actress is said to be far more upset about the theft of her diaries, including many entries penned while she was in rehab.

SECURITY TIGHTENED: In the wake of recent death threats and stalker problems, Miley Cyrus is so freaked out, she's added a half-dozen bodyguards to her 24/7 detail, plus has had her entire team of aides and associates take lie detector tests.

''She wants to make sure no one near her has any issues, including drug use or legal or financial problems,'' said my source -- who has been tested already.

STAR POWER: The first floor of Macy's on State Street likely will be jam-packed around noon Wednesday when rap superstar 50 Cent appears to promote his new fragrance, Power by 50. The first 300 fans who plunk down $68.50 to buy Fiddy's men's cologne will get to meet him and receive an autographed photo.

IRISH EYES: Patrick Guinness, the great-great-great-great-great grandson of Arthur Guinness, founder of the world-famous brewery empire, dined at RL with Rosie O'Neill, Tom O'Gorman and visiting Irish Georgian Society stalwarts Desmond Fitzgerald, the Knight of Glin, and Donough Cahill -- prior to the Chicago chapter of the society's fall gala, where Guinness charmed the crowd with anecdotes from Arthur's Round, his biography of his enterprising ancestor.

THE MEN'S ROOM: The first major Chicago fund-raiser specifically targeting men's cancer issues happens Monday night at Morton's on East Wacker, raising funds for genitourinary oncology research at the University of Chicago, boosted by a committee that includes Morton's co-founder Klaus Kritsch, Pat Ryan, Patrick Plante, Ken Cook and James Goodwin.

FASHION FLASH: The retirement of Nena Ivon as the longtime Saks Fifth Avenue fashion director and manager of special events, is truly the end of an era. So it's not surprising a number of fetes are planned to honor Nena and her five decades of making Chicagoans better aware of good style. Along with a Saks in-store bash Nov. 12, many of the top Chicago models who worked for Nena -- dating to the 1950s and including Dori Wilson, Shelley MacArthur Farley, Marilyn Miglin, Eleanor Montesano, Elsa Tullos, Gayle King, George Weeks, Diane Hollowell, Shauna Montgomery, Terri D'Ancona, Zarada Gowenlock and Jeanuche Wopinski -- are planning a glam-packed ''toast 'n' roast'' of Nena this coming Thursday in the Palmer House Hilton's recently remodeled penthouse.

A BONNIE BIT: Mayor Daley will be joined by a Chicago favorite and native daughter, Bonnie Hunt, for the annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony in Daley Plaza. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. Thanksgiving eve, Nov. 25.

ROMANTIC RUMBLINGS: Though Sienna Miller and Jude Law merely say they're still friends, frequent one-on-one sightings of the ex-couple has buzz starting they're back together.

SEEN ON THE SCENE: Blackhawks star Patrick Kane and the Bulls' Lindsey Hunter were spied dining at Joe's Stone Crab -- and talking sports -- the other night.
