Women leaders in Lake County weighed in on the choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential nominee. They agree that the first Republican woman to run for vice president is historic and a leap forward for women, but disagree on how qualified Palin is to be a heartbeat away from the country's top executive seat. "I have no doubt that she is ready," said Lake County Board Chairman Suzi Schmidt, who just came back from the GOP convention.

A 57-year-old Zion man will pedal across Illinois next week following the Grand Illinois Trail to raise money and awareness for the world's largest volunteer service organization. Roger Peters, president of the Wadsworth Lions Club, will pedal solo over 500 miles in six days for the "Ride for Charity."
