Naperville Central turned Marist into a ball-control, field-position type of team, and it still wasn't enough to advance in the Class 8A tournament.

That's not Marist's identity -- it headed into Saturday night averaging around 37 points per game behind a future Football Bowl Subdivision quarterback. But it found a way to win on Saturday night in Chicago.
Saturday's reversal of fortunes in the boys 3A state race highlighted a Naperville-heavy day at Detweiller Park.

Last year, Naperville North won the boys team title and Neuqua finished fourth. This year, the Wildcats claimed the championship and the Huskies finished seventh.

The Naperville North girls and Naperville Central's Amanda Fox both continued their excellence also -- on the state's biggest stage.

Neuqua Valley's Aaron Beattie, a senior, ran the fastest time of any Naperville boy in the state race.
The Bears' offensive line has been under siege of late, but it's only one part of a unit that has been dysfunctional as a whole. The offense is running the ball like it did last season -- not well enough -- and quarterback Jay Cutler has been smacked around some behind a line that has gone from using three new starters this season to two after the Josh Beekman switcheroo last week.

They're not the Cardiac Kids just yet, but the Bulls are making a habit of comeback victories at home. Four days after overcoming an 18-point deficit in the second half en route to defeating the Milwaukee Bucks, the Bulls erased a nine-point deficit and survived some shaky free-throw shooting down the stretch to earn a 93-90 victory Saturday against the Charlotte Bobcats at the United Center.
