Three and out

October 2, 2009

Quick hits on other games to watch tonight:

Neuqua Valley (2-3) vs. Cathedral (Ind.) (5-1) at University of Indianapolis, 7: Once the Upstate Eight Conference gave the Wildcats a bye, they had to look far and wide for an extra game. They found Cathedral, Indiana's defending state champions in Class 4A. The school's NFL alumni include New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Jeremy Trueblood.

St. Charles East (3-2) at Waubonsie Valley (3-2), 7:30: The Saints are on a three-game winning streak propped up by blowout victories over Streamwood and East Aurora, which together are 1-9 this season. But they also handed South Elgin its only loss of the year. The rest of Waubonsie's schedule goes like this: Two games against the only teams still unbeaten in UEC play (St. Charles East and Lake Park); and two dates with Elgin and East Aurora (1-9 combined record). For the Warriors, a playoff berth is within reach.

St. Viator (3-2) vs. Benet (2-3) at Benedictine, 7:30: After losing to perhaps the two best teams in the East Suburban Catholic Conference in consecutive weeks -- Joliet Catholic and Marist -- St. Viator travels to Lisle. The Lions hung with both teams and should be focused on Benet junior running back E.J. Howe, who according to the ESCC's Web site is second in scoring during league play with 36 points (five touchdowns and three two-point conversions).
