Neuqua squads to cheer at Bulls game
Who needs Derrick Rose?
The real attraction for the Neuqua Valley community at the Nov. 14 Bulls game won't be the team's star point guard but rather the Neuqua Valley High School cheerleaders.
The freshmen, junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders will perform a pregame routine from 7 to 7:15 p.m. as a fundraiser. The Bulls take on the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $27 and $37, and can be ordered by mailing Alison Miralgio, 3220 Cedar Glade Drive, Naperville, IL 60564.
Set in the small town of Dublin, Mo., the play follows Ruth Hoch as she rehearses for a community theater production of "St. Joan," searches for the murderers behind the death of the local cheese plant owner, and confronts those preventing her from finding the truth.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 4 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 14. No performance is scheduled on Oct. 31. Tickets are $20. Call 630-544-9504 or visit www.evergreentheatreensemble.org .
Attired in a vibrant pink jacket to help drive her point home, the District 6 DuPage County Board member spoke up at the end of the group's twice-monthly meeting this week to make note of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which ends Saturday, and all the good it does.
As a breast cancer survivor, the Winfield Republican said she knows the funds raised for research matter. She implored her board colleagues and the county staff members remaining in the room to support the cause.
Most pointedly, she said donations collected through fundraising projects and the sale of pink things every October helped pay for the development of the anti-cancer drug Herceptin, "which saved my life."
If only politicians were always so concise.
