Edward passes out gummi brains at opening of neurosciences center

September 25, 2009

Edward Hospital recently unveiled a new lab where serious stroke cases can be treated: the Edward Neurosciences Institute, in affiliation with Northwestern University.

Before the presentation, the marketing staff handed out some not-so-serious trinkets: a brain-shaped stress ball and gummi brains candy.

Yummmm.

Naperville gets thumbs up from Ebert
A famous face will be in town to close out the Naperville Independent Film Festival on Saturday.

Film critic Roger Ebert -- whose reviews you read in these pages -- will be on hand at 6:30 p.m. for the event's closing ceremony, taking place at the new Hollywood Palms, 352 S. Route 59, Naperville. He'll be signing copies of his books, including "Awake in the Dark: The Best of Roger Ebert."

Vikings invade Naperville
If you spot some Vikings around town Monday, don't be alarmed.

It's all part of the national bus tour to promote "Ranger's Apprentice," the best-selling fantasy book series.

The tour will feature three actors from the nationally acclaimed children's theater troupe The Striking Viking Story Pirates. Performances will include music, sound effects, prizes, an interactive apprentice selection ceremony and an eight-foot-tall villain.

It all takes place at 7 p.m. at Naperville Central High School. Tickets are available with a purchase of a "Ranger's Apprentice" book at Anderson's Bookshop.

Peggle prodigies
A brother and sister team from Naperville received the grand prize in the youth category of PopCap Games' Peggle Art Contest.

Michael and Stephanie Liu, ages 13 and 11, respectively, will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Seattle, where they'll visit PopCap's headquarters to meet with members of PopCap's art team.

"We're so excited to visit PopCap and see how the Peggle levels are made," Stephanie said. "It's going to be so awesome!"
