Arrestee doubles his troubles
Should you ever find yourself in the unenviable position of occupying a police holding cell, chances are you'll want to be on your best behavior, at least until you're released. Unless, of course, you'd rather double your trouble by vandalizing the place. Naperville police say Jeffrey R. Dillavou chose the latter course of action and now faces trial on charges of residential burglary and criminal damage to property.

Young robber could get the 'boot"
A young Westmont man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in an aborted armed robbery last fall in the south-central part of Naperville. But Luis A. Martinez could avoid that fate should he successfully enroll in and complete an "impact incarceration program," a state boot camp for first-time criminal offenders.

Woman reports theft to cops, gets arrested
Tamara R. Turner got a bit more than she was expecting when she called Naperville police. Patrol officers were sent last week to the 37-year-old Turner's home at 2323 Kingsley Drive, in the Old Farm neighborhood on the city's far south side, according to a police report.

Local man charged with assaulting child
Bail was set at $1 million Thursday for a man accused of sexually assaulting a girl in the day care center his wife runs from their home on Naperville's far south side. Jose E. Luviano, 43, will stand trial in DuPage County Circuit Court on a Class X felony charge of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to a joint release from Naperville Police Chief David Dial and State's Attorney Joe Birkett.

Internet sting snags two child porn suspects
Wheaton Police Department detectives teamed up with the office of Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan for an undercover internet sting operation that led to the arrest of two Villa Park men on charges of possession of child pornography.

Lisle man sentenced in child porn case
Attorney General Lisa Madigan today announced that a Lisle man was sentenced this week to three years in prison and one year of mandatory supervised release after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge.

Oswego man jailed in Internet sex case
An unemployed Oswego man was in Will County Jail Wednesday night on charges of trying to arrange a sexual rendezvous with a teenage girl who turned out to be an undercover Naperville police detective. Larry A. Larson remained in jail after his bail was set at $60,000 Wednesday by a Will County Circuit Court judge.

Cops nab man in classic '65 Chevy Corvair
A Bolingbrook man who has received at least 14 traffic tickets since 1982 -- including one less than four months ago for speeding in a construction zone -- has yet another court date pending, this time for allegedly driving his sports car at nearly 100 mph on a busy Naperville thoroughfare.

Police looking into home burglaries
Two Wheaton homes were burglarized as their occupants slept early Wednesday, apparently through first-floor windows that were left unlocked.

A 39-year-old Naperville man is being held on $750,000 bond at DuPage County Jail on charges that he beat up his girlfriend three days before he drove the woman to Edward Hospital, where she was reported in critical condition Tuesday.

Downed power line sparks gas line fire
In a bizarre confluence of public utilities, an overhead electrical power line fell to the ground and ignited an underground natural gas main, creating a 10-foot-tall fireball outside two apartment buildings.

Police report: Bottle of vodka stolen from store
About 9:15 p.m. Monday, two women took four bottles of vodka with total value of $225.96 from shelves at Dominick's Finer Foods, 1555 North Aurora Road, and left store without paying for them; women seen fleeing in silver-colored car.

Man pleads guilty in assault of child
A Naperville man pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of sexual assault of a Naperville child. Stephen Silvey, 47, formerly of 103 S. Testa Ave., entered a blind plea of guilty in front of Judge Peter Dockery to one count each of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, intimidation and possession of child pornography, according to a press release from DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett.

Plea deal reached in Gregory assault case
One of two Naperville middle-school boys accused of sexually assaulting a classmate pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony. The 12-year-old boy was sentenced to four years of probation, according to the Will County State's Attorney's Office.

A onetime employee of a Naperville construction material supplier has been sentenced to six months in DuPage County Jail for swindling that business. Kevin J. Coombs of Oswego pleaded guilty in DuPage County Circuit Court to a Class 2 felony charge of theft of over $10,000.

Cops seek information in arson in park
Naperville police are appealing to the public for help in solving a case of arson, in which an accelerant was used to destroy a portable toilet. The fire was set sometime between 1:30 and 1:40 a.m. June 7 in the Columbia Commons park at 1524 Oxford Lane, written police reports stated. The park is in the Baileywood neighborhood in the east-central part of the city.

Man nabbed for DUI as sparks fly from tire rim
Most people try not to draw attention to themselves when trying to evade the police. But a Tennessee man arrested Friday for drunken driving and myriad other traffic offenses in Naperville apparently couldn't help himself, attempting a getaway on a tire rim that left eye-popping sparks cascading in its wake.

Police: Five car burglaries appear related
Naperville police are continuing to investigate five apparently related vehicle burglaries that occurred within the same timeframe last week on the city's southeast side.

Kathryn Albino, 17; 11:22 p.m., after being observed stumbling down street near Windemere Avenue and Springdale Circle; charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Cops put up reward in dogs' poison deaths
A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information about last month's fatal poisonings of two pet dogs on Naperville's far south side. Naperville Crime Stoppers posted the reward Friday. Investigators are seeking tips from the public about the person or persons "responsible for the deaths of two dogs as a result of ingesting poison," a Crime Stoppers release read in part.

A registered sex offender from Wheaton was ordered held without bond Thursday after being arrested and charged with distributing child pornography, federal authorities announced today.

A mother and her two children escaped injury early Thursday after a bolt of lightning sparked a fire that did more than $60,000 damage to the roof, attic and upstairs bathroom of their two-story house at 3820 Highknob Circle.

Wheaton robber to do 10 years in jail
Donald L. Brown was sentenced to 10 years in prison today for an armed robbery in Wheaton in February. During the morning of Feb. 14, Brown, 31, of Lombard, attacked a woman in the driveway of her Wheaton home.

A Naperville resident who says he is a local firefighter was arrested Monday on a charge of one count of domestic battery, Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

Joliet officer badly beaten
A Joliet police officer was seriously beaten Tuesday morning while reportedly stopping a 29-year-old Naperville man from burning down his ex-girlfriend's house in Joliet's Wesmere subdivision.

Joseph A. Brunker, 18, and Peter P. Panozzo, 17; at Caputo's Fresh Market, 3115 111th St.; charged with retail theft for stealing two bottles of liquor from the store.

Youth arrested for Facebook threats
The Lisle Police Department arrested a 15-year-old Lisle High School student June 4 for posting inappropriate and threatening statements on his Facebook page. Police were notified about a statement which was posted on the juvenile's Facebook page June 1 which read "Lisle Senior High School needs to be the target of domestic terrorism."

Peeping Tom gets supervision
A "peeping Tom" has been placed on supervision and fined for spying last fall on the occupants of a Naperville apartment. Michael J. Bukovsky, 33, of Aurora, was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct/peeping, according to records on file in DuPage County Circuit Court.
