Pembroke Commons forms diverse circle

October 27, 2009

The 150 homes of Pembroke Commons form a circle -- both literally and figuratively.

The neighborhood "is shaped as a circle," said Susan Wade, co-president of the homeowners association for Pembroke Commons, in reference to the physical placement of the homes. "It's a very traditional neighborhood in that sense."

The concept of a circle extends, also, to the network of residents and the friendships they have built.

"We have very friendly neighbors," said resident James Krebaum. "Everybody knows everyone."

Activities abound for both the children and the adults in the form of various events planned by the homeowners association. Activities range from an annual picnic, two book clubs, Christmas gift exchanges, a Fourth of July bike parade, couples euchre and more.

The homes, built in the early 1980s, feature "a diverse group" of homeowners, according to Wade.

"It makes for always interesting conversations," Wade said.

Wade added that young families are moving into the neighborhood along with the original owners. With the young families come many young children.

"We actually fill up a whole school bus of kids (going to) Highland School," Wade said.
